In May 2025 the Russian question and answer platform Otvet Mail.ru experienced a massive data collection incident. Using automated parsing techniques threat actors extracted public profile information belonging to approximately 36 million users. The dataset includes user nicknames and comprehensive account statistics such as the total number of questions asked and answers provided by each participant. While the data was technically public the large scale aggregation allows for detailed profiling of the user base on one of the largest social knowledge platforms in Russia.
